Before the Birth of Christ

Many prophets preached about the birth of the Savior long before it happened. Scriptures tell of the coming of Jesus Christ our redeemer many years before he came including in the Old Testament, New Testament and Book of Mormon. In the book of Isaiah, in the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesies of a son being born to a virgin
"14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."  - Isaiah 7:14.
This verse is very similar to one in Mathew:"23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
In Micah 5 where he prophesies about how in Bethlehem a ruler of Israel will be born there.
"2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." - Micah 5:2
The Book of Mormon also includes prophesies of the birth of Christ. My favorite Book of Mormon scripture about the birth of Christ is:
"4 Yea, even six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem, a prophet would the Lord God raise up among the Jews—even a Messiah, or, in other words, a Savior of the world.
5 And he also spake concerning the prophets, how great a number had testified of these things, concerning this Messiah, of whom he had spoken, or this Redeemer of the world.
6 Wherefore, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be save they should rely on this Redeemer." - 1 Nephi 10:4-6
I really love these scriptures because of how straightforward and simple Lehi's words are. Through the text I can feel his conviction and that he knows what he is saying is true and that Christ would come and redeem the world. And through their faith they would be saved also.
"2 And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name.
3 And behold, this will I give unto you for a sign at the time of his coming; for behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch that in the night before he cometh there shall be no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.
4 Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.
5 And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.
6 And behold this is not all, there shall be many signs and wonders in heaven.
7 And it shall come to pass that ye shall all be amazed, and wonder, insomuch that ye shall fall to the earth.
8 And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall believe on the Son of God, the same shall have everlasting life." - Helaman 14:2-8

This passage is another example of how the birth of Christ was prophesied in the Americas as well. These verses correspond with other passages in the Bible about the coming of Christ. For example, in Numbers 24:17 also prophesies of a new star that will come the night that Jesus is born. All of these scriptures testify of the coming of a Redeemer that will save the world not only from their sins but from hardships as well.

Far Far Away on Judea's Plains

This is one of my favorite Christmas hymns. It is probably my favorite because it is the only Christmas hymn I could ever play on the piano, and because it is not one of the super popular Christmas hymns :).
